Hot Shop & Furnaces

Boasting a bank of 6 benches as well as glory holes ranging from 12- 24 inches, the hot glass studio will be ideal for both production and experimental work. With a 1000 lb electric furnace for professionals and a 400 lb student furnace, the shop will provide ample space for professional rentals and classes taught by our talented instructors who have decades of combined professional experience. In addition to our local expert instructors, GBG will host both well known and emerging artists for both teaching and residencies in the hot shop.

Flame Shop

Our state of the art flameworking facility will have top of the line ventilation and oxygen production. The spacious studio will afford the space to spread out and work large on one of the 6 new Carlisle CC Torches or set yourself up for a production run of smaller work on our 6 Nortell Mega Minors. With ample annealing space, equipment rental will be readily available.

Cold Shop

Our large open access cold working studio will host a bay of three 24 inch flat lap grinding wheels and a full range of magnetic grinding pads. In addition, the cold shop will include 3 cutting lathes, 3 polishing lathes, and a set of standing belt sanders. Both 10 and 20 inch saws will make large scale removal of material a breeze while the two JIM 9000 lathes will allow fine cutting and engraving. In addition to these grinding options, we boast a state of the art large sandblaster for surfacing and cutting.

Educational Programs

Six to Ten Week Studio Classes
For the committed glass student, we will offer 6 to 10 week classes in furnace working, flame working, cold working, engraving, fusing, and stained glass that meet once a week for three hours at a time. Each session will offer a new area of focus. These classes range in skill level from absolute beginner to advanced techniques in each genre of glass.

Visiting Artist Workshops
Several times a year we will invite master glassblowers to teach their signature style or technique in an intensive workshop. While operating as NOCA Glass School, visiting artists included: Boyd Sugiki & Lisa Zerkowitz, Davide Fuin, Alexander Rosenburg, Sandy Dukeshire, Jordana Korsen, Devin Burgess, Adam Holtzinger, Pablo Soto, and Janusz Pozniak.

Weekend Workshops
No experience will be required to join us for these 1-2 day workshops designed to give you a taste of the glass arts. You will be able to choose from glassblowing, flame working, and fusing. All classes are designed to give a well-rounded glass experience.
Glassblowing: Themed classes will range from paperweights, to glass flowers, pumpkins, ornaments, and 2-day glassblowing sampler classes.
Flame working: Themed classes will range from beads to sculpted animals and figurines.
Fusing: Themed classes will range from glass coasters to wall and window hanging and bowls.

Private Lessons & Events
Instructors will be available for private lessons with individual students and small groups to develop personal ideas, learn new skills, and sharpen existing techniques.
We will offer private educational experiences including corporate team building events, school visits and field trips, family gatherings, and birthday parties.
